Barinder Sran, the left-arm fast bowler who made his international debut under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, has announced his retirement from both international and domestic cricket at the age of 31.

Sran made his debut in January 2016 and played a total of six ODIs and two T20 Internationals for India before his international career came to an end in June 2016. Over his brief stint, he took seven wickets in ODIs and six in T20Is. Despite his early promise, he never returned to the Indian team.

In domestic cricket, Sran has been a significant player, representing Punjab in 18 First-Class matches, 31 List A games, and 48 T20s. He also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played for Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Mumbai Indians, appearing in 24 matches and taking 18 wickets.

Sran confirmed his retirement on Instagram, reflecting on his cricketing journey with gratitude. He wrote, “As I officially hang up my cricket boots, I look back at my journey with a heart full of gratitude. Cricket has gifted me innumerable and incredible experiences. Fast bowling soon became my lucky charm and opened doors to represent prestigious IPL franchises, ultimately culminating in the highest honor of representing India in 2016. Even though my international career was brief, the memories created will be forever cherished. I am eternally grateful to the almighty for getting me the right coaches and management, who have supported me throughout my journey.”

His last competitive match was in February 2021 for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Madhya Pradesh, where he scored 24 runs and took a wicket while conceding 91 runs.
