Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that he has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asking for a disaster fund for the national capital amid coronavirus spread. “Centre released ₹17,000 crore to the states to fight coronavirus, but didn’t give even a single rupee to Delhi,” said Sisodia. “Such discrimination is unfortunate,” he added.
“The whole world is suffering from COVID-19, Delhi government and people of Delhi are working collectively with the center to fight the battle against it. On Friday, the central government provided emergency disaster management relief assistance to all states, but Delhi was not given a single rupee. This comes as a huge shock and disappointment to us. The center is not expected to play politics in this situation,” added Sisodia.
Sisodia further said that Delhi had asked the center for more PPE and testing kits, but got nothing from the centre. He further said, Delhi has been on the forefront for fighting against Coronavirus, and is collectively with the centre.
“The government is providing food to 6.5 lakh people twice a day and has developed a capacity to provide food to over 10 lakh people. It is also launching a scheme to provide food to non ration card holders. But Delhi is deliberately being kept out of it,” he complained.
