Indian Ambassador to the US, Harsh Vardhan Shringla took charge as new Foreign Secretary as Vijay Gokhale retired after completing his two year tenure.

Shringla had earlier served as an Ambassador for Thailand as well. Now Shringla will take over as Foreign Secretary for the next two years.

He has also held the post of Ambassador of India to America. He has been appointed to this high-level post at a time when the country is facing the challenges of foreign policy. Apart from this, India is currently facing criticism from many countries regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act. In addition, India is facing increasingly vocal Trump administration and China’s attempt to expand its military and economic influence in the region.
