New mayor appointed by Taliban imposes Sharia law in Kabul

Just a day after the withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan, Taliban has started showing signs of how it will rule the country. Hamdullah Nomani, the newly appointed mayor of Kabul has imposed Sharia law in the Afghan capital, if Afghan news reports are to be believed.

 

With the Taliban set about consolidating its control over Afghanistan, there are already reports emerging of infighting in the military organization over government formation.

 

According to Pajhwok Afghan news, the new mayor has made it clear that companies will be paid their dues, roadside sellers will be relocated, and corrupt officials will be dealt with in accordance with Sharia law. The development comes amid reports of corruption in Kabul’s municipality.

 

Hamdullah, who is also the head of the Taliban’s municipality commission, made this announcement throughout the capital on Monday.
