Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Durgapur, West Bengal, on Friday, where he is scheduled to address a public rally and inaugurate Central government projects worth over ₹5,000 crore. In the lead-up to the visit, PM Modi used his official X account (formerly Twitter) to outline the dual purpose of the trip — political and administrative — while sharply criticising the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Blistering Critique of TMC Misrule
In one of his posts, PM Modi took aim at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the TMC government:
“West Bengal is suffering due to TMC misrule. People are seeing the BJP with hope and are convinced that only the BJP can deliver on development,” he wrote.
He also called on supporters to attend the upcoming rally in Durgapur:
“Tomorrow, July 18, I will be addressing a @BJPBengal rally in Durgapur. Do join!”
Focus on Development Projects
In a separate post, PM Modi shifted tone to highlight his government’s development agenda:
“Looking forward to being among the people of West Bengal tomorrow. At a programme in Durgapur, will lay the foundation stones for various works and also inaugurate projects worth over ₹5,000 crore. The projects cover sectors like oil and gas, power, railways, and roads.”
The visit comes as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensifies its preparations for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, aiming to expand its presence in a state long dominated by the TMC.
