Tilak Varma Named Deputy; Suryakumar, Hardik Among 4 Dropped

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the 2026 Asian Games to be held in Japan. During a meeting held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on June 6, the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar selected a 15-member squad, with Shreyas Iyer appointed as captain. Additionally, they have included star player Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who dazzled with his batting in the 2026 IPL, in the team.

The Asian Games are set to begin on September 19. The men's cricket tournament kicks off on September 24, featuring teams from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.

The BCCI has now announced the Indian squad for the Asian Games, comprising 15 players. Shreyas Iyer has been handed the captaincy for this Asian tournament, while Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain.

**Captaincy Taken Away from Suryakumar Yadav**
The Indian board has stripped Suryakumar Yadav—who led India to victories in tournaments like the ICC T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup—of the captaincy and appointed Shreyas Iyer in his place. Furthermore, 'SKY' has been dropped from the T20 squad. Reports suggest that the team management was unhappy with his declining batting performance, prompting this decision. Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravi Bishnoi have also been left out of the Asian Games squad.

**Left Out of Ireland-England Series Too**
It is worth noting that the BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the Ireland-England series alongside the Asian Games squad. However, the team selected for these series has taken everyone by surprise; notably, the Indian selectors did not include Hardik Pandya or Jasprit Bumrah in the squad. ...

Meanwhile, Prince Yadav and Vaibhav Suryavanshi have earned their maiden call-ups to Team India. Both players delivered impressive performances in IPL 2026, impressing the selectors enough to warrant their inclusion.
