Wipro Bets Big on Enterprise AI Innovation

Wipro Opens AI Centre for Anthropic’s Claude

India's technology major Wipro has launched a new Applied AI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru focused on Anthropic's Claude family of artificial intelligence models. The move marks a significant step in the company's efforts to strengthen its enterprise AI capabilities and reflects a broader shift underway across India's information technology industry. As global demand for AI-powered solutions accelerates, Indian IT firms are increasingly investing in advanced AI platforms to remain competitive in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

The new centre is expected to play a critical role in helping Wipro develop AI-driven products, train talent, and deliver next-generation solutions for businesses across multiple sectors.

India's IT Industry Enters the AI Era

India's IT services industry, valued at more than $300 billion, has long been built on a labour-intensive model centred on software development, consulting, outsourcing, and technology support services. However, the rapid rise of generative AI has sparked concerns that traditional business models could face disruption as automation increasingly handles routine coding, support, and business processes.

This has prompted major Indian technology firms to accelerate investments in artificial intelligence. Earlier this month, Tata Consultancy Services announced a major partnership with Anthropic to scale enterprise AI adoption globally. The agreement underscored a growing race among Indian IT giants to establish leadership in the emerging AI ecosystem.

Against this backdrop, Wipro's latest initiative signals its determination to remain at the forefront of technological transformation.

Building AI Expertise Around Claude

The Bengaluru-based Centre of Excellence will serve as Anthropic's second major office presence in Asia after Tokyo and will focus on integrating Claude models into Wipro's technology platforms and client solutions.

The centre aims to develop AI-native applications, create industry-specific tools, and support enterprise-scale AI deployments. By embedding Claude across the company's technology stack, Wipro intends to help clients incorporate AI directly into business workflows rather than treating it as a standalone technology.

A major component of the initiative is talent development. Wipro plans to certify 10,000 frontline delivery professionals on Claude models over the next 18 months. The company also intends to deploy AI extensively within its own operations, including finance, human resources, sales, and delivery functions, enabling it to gain practical experience before scaling solutions for clients.

Benefits for Businesses and the Indian Economy

The partnership offers several potential advantages. For businesses, AI-powered automation can improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance decision-making, and streamline operations. Industries such as financial services, healthcare, telecommunications, manufacturing, and public services stand to benefit from faster and more intelligent workflows.

For Wipro, the initiative expands opportunities beyond traditional IT services. AI-driven application modernisation, workflow redesign, and platform development could open new revenue streams and help offset pressures on conventional services businesses.

At a broader level, the initiative supports India's ambition to become a global hub for AI innovation. Training thousands of professionals in advanced AI technologies will strengthen the country's digital workforce, enhance competitiveness, and encourage the development of indigenous expertise in emerging technologies.

A Strategic Step Toward an AI-Native Future

Wipro's Applied AI Centre of Excellence represents more than a corporate technology investment; it reflects the wider transformation underway across India's IT industry. As artificial intelligence reshapes how businesses operate, companies must evolve from traditional service providers into innovation-driven technology partners. By combining advanced AI models, workforce training, and enterprise-scale deployment capabilities, Wipro is positioning itself for the next phase of digital transformation. If executed successfully, the initiative could not only strengthen Wipro's competitive standing but also contribute significantly to India's growing role in the global AI economy.
