Rajiv Bansal appointed Chairman and MD of Air India

Senior bureaucrat Rajiv Bansal was appointed as the chairman and MD of Air India on Thursday. Bansal, , a 1998 batch IAS officer of Nagaland cadre, is currently the additional secretary in the petroleum ministry, and had held an additional charge of Air India chief in August 2017 for about 4 months, when the chairman Ashish Lohani was moved to the Railway board.

 

Bansal will replace Lohani who was appointed to the post after retiring from Railway on February 14 last year for a period of one year at the time when divestment process of airline is divestment process of the airline is on and bids have been invited.

 

This is for the second time Bansal has been appointed to the post after the government announced 100% stake sale of debt ridden national carrier. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment as CMD of Air India in rank and pay of additional secretary, the order stated.
