Vijay Subramaniam has stepped down as the Director and head of content at Amazon Prime Video India. Subramaniam joined Prime Video in June 2017 and was instrumental in stitching content deals with major studios and production houses, giving Prime Video an edge over rival Netflix.

Gaurav Gandhi ,Director and Country Manager will take over the lead role in taking Prime Video in India across all teams. We are grateful to him for his valuable contributions over the last four years,” an Amazon Prime Video spokesperson told.

India is one of the largest markets for Prime Video globally, and one of the few countries where original programming and movies are doing better than rival Netflix, which has so far struggled to crack the originals formulae in the country.

“Vijay has played a key role in Prime Video’s growth in India in this period. In his content leadership role, Vijay helped forge several key creator partnerships as well as laid great focus on expanding our content selection across languages,” the spokesperson said.

“Gaurav will work across all teams to accelerate Prime Video’s mission to be the most-loved entertainment brand in the country,” the spokesperson said.

Subramaniam has previously served at Walt Disney India for almost a decade and he has also worked at MTV, Radio Mirchi, Star India and Stardust.
