A Love Story That Took a Different Turn
Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma were once a much-adored couple, winning hearts with their chemistry on social media. The duo tied the knot in 2020, and their relationship often made headlines with their playful Instagram reels and affectionate posts. However, behind the glamour, troubles were brewing, and after nearly five years of marriage, they decided to part ways.
On February 5, 2025, Chahal and Dhanashree filed for divorce by mutual consent, marking the end of their relationship. Their legal battle reached its conclusion on March 21, 2025, when the Mumbai family court granted them a divorce.
The Legal Process & Alimony Settlement
The divorce proceedings were expedited following a directive from the Bombay High Court, considering Chahal’s cricketing commitments with Punjab Kings for IPL 2025. On Thursday, Chahal, 34, arrived first at the Bandra Family Court, followed by Dhanashree, 28, an hour later.
Their divorce was granted under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, which typically requires a six-month cooling-off period before finalization. However, citing irreconcilable differences and the fact that they had been living separately since June 2022, the court waived the cooling-off period after the couple jointly requested it.
A major condition of the settlement was Chahal’s alimony payment of ₹4.75 crore to Dhanashree. He initially paid ₹2.37 crore, and the remaining amount was set to be cleared once the court finalized the divorce. The Bombay High Court had earlier flagged the non-payment of the full amount as partial non-compliance, briefly delaying proceedings.
The Final Decision & IPL Commitments
With all legal hurdles cleared, Advocate Nitin Kumar Gupta, representing Chahal, confirmed that the court had accepted their joint petition, officially declaring that they were no longer husband and wife.
Chahal had to take a brief break from his IPL 2025 training with Punjab Kings in Chandigarh to attend the hearing. The leg-spinner was signed by Punjab Kings for a staggering ₹18 crore in the 2024 mega auction and is gearing up for the team’s opening clash against Gujarat Titans on March 25.
Moving Forward in Different Directions
While their relationship has come to an end, both Chahal and Dhanashree are expected to focus on their individual careers. Chahal remains one of India’s most talented leg-spinners, and his IPL performance will be closely watched. Dhanashree, on the other hand, continues to make strides in the dance and entertainment industry.
Their split may have marked the end of a chapter, but life moves on—both for them and for their fans who once celebrated their love story.
