Thirteen schools in Bengaluru received bomb threats Friday morning through email, police said.  The email claimed that explosives had been planted on school premises. Police were immediately notified and have been searching the schools for any suspicious objects. So far, no explosives have been found.

In light of the bomb threat, one of the schools issued an advisory to parents. “We are encountering an unexpected situation at school today. The school has received a security threat from unknown sources. As we hold the safety of our children at utmost priority, we have decided to disperse the students immediately,” the advisory read.

The bomb threat via email on Friday, led to the evacuation of over 5,000 children to allow anti-sabotage and bomb squads of Bengaluru police to conduct checks.

The email threats are on similar lines to those received by multiple schools in 2022, police sources said. NEEV, KLAY, and Vidyashilp are some of the schools where checks are being conducted. The emails received on Friday were sent from various addresses with masking of the IP address of origin of the emails, police sources added.

The schools have taken emergency actions in the face of the threats: students have either been sent back home or are waiting for police clearance to return to classes.

On April 8, 2022, as many as 16 schools in Bengaluru received hoax bomb threat emails between 11 am to 2.30 pm. The email read: “A very powerful bomb has been planted in your school, attention is not a joke, this is not a joke, a very powerful bomb has been planted in your school, immediately call the police and sappers, hundreds of lives may suffer including yours, do not delay, now everything is only in your hands!”

The police had then booked a case under cyber-terrorism charges and the probe revealed that a minor from Tamil Nadu was behind the threats.
