A Grand Effort to Set a Guinness World Record

The sacred city of Prayagraj witnessed an extraordinary display of unity and dedication as 15,000 sanitation workers came together to attempt a Guinness World Record for a synchronized cleanliness drive. This ambitious initiative, held across four zones of the Maha Kumbh Mela, showcased the commitment of the workers to maintaining hygiene and cleanliness at one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.

The momentous event was graced by Prayagraj Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani, Mahakumbh’s Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana, and a supervisory team from the Guinness Book of World Records. The chief supervisor and judge, Rishi Nath, arrived from London with his team to oversee the record attempt. To ensure accuracy, each sanitation worker was counted through wristband code scanning. The official validation of the record is expected to be released within three days.

This remarkable attempt follows a previous record set in 2019, when 10,000 sanitation workers successfully carried out a similar synchronized cleanliness drive at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. If validated, this new record will highlight an even greater achievement in sanitation and environmental awareness.

A Message of Cleanliness from the Holy Land

Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani emphasized the significance of the event, stating that this attempt sends a powerful message of cleanliness from the revered city of Prayagraj to the entire world. Uttar Pradesh’s Urban Development and Energy Minister, A.K. Sharma, lauded the dedication of sanitation workers, acknowledging their tireless efforts in keeping the Maha Kumbh Mela area pristine.

“They worked day and night to ensure that the Kumbh Mela remains clean and organized. Their contribution is invaluable in making this grand event a success,” Sharma stated.

Traffic and Safety Measures for Mahashivratri

In anticipation of the final bathing day coinciding with Mahashivratri on February 26, authorities have implemented strict traffic regulations to facilitate crowd management. Starting from 4 PM on Tuesday, the Maha Kumbh Mela area will be designated as a no-vehicle zone. By 6 PM, this restriction will extend to the entire city of Prayagraj. However, essential service vehicles carrying supplies such as milk, vegetables, medicines, and fuel will be exempt from these restrictions. Government officials, police officers, and emergency personnel will also have unrestricted movement.

The administration has issued detailed guidelines for devotees to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage. Visitors are encouraged to bathe only at designated ghats closest to their entry points. Those arriving from different routes have been directed accordingly:

  • Dakshini Jhunsi route: Arail Ghat
  • Uttari Jhunsi route: Harishchandra Ghat and Old GT Ghat
  • Pande Kshetra entrants: Bharadwaj Ghat, Naga Vasuki Ghat, Mori Ghat, Kali Ghat, Ram Ghat, and Hanuman Ghat
  • Arail sector entrants: Arail Ghat

Officials have also announced that pontoon bridges will be closely monitored and controlled based on crowd density. Pilgrims are urged to avoid unnecessary movement and return to their destinations promptly after completing their rituals.

The Culmination of a Grand Spiritual Gathering

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, will conclude on February 26, marking both the final holy bath and the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. With an estimated footfall exceeding 63 crore visitors, this year’s Mela stands as one of the largest religious congregations in history.

Authorities have appealed to all attendees to adhere to guidelines, cooperate with officials, and ensure a peaceful and spiritually fulfilling experience. Devotees are encouraged to offer prayers at their nearest Shiva temples to prevent overcrowding at major pilgrimage sites.

As the Maha Kumbh Mela draws to a close, the synchronized cleanliness drive stands as a testament to the dedication of thousands of unsung heroes—sanitation workers—who have worked relentlessly to uphold the sanctity of this grand event. Their efforts not only set new records but also reinforce the message of cleanliness and devotion, making the Maha Kumbh a truly historic and inspiring event.
