BJP surges ahead in UP

In the first ever opinion poll conducted in Uttar Pradesh after the surgical strikes by Axis-My-India for India Today Group, the BJP is all set to emerge as a single largest party in the state which will go to polls in 2017.

According to the Axis-My-India poll, the BJP is slated for the first spot, bagging between 170 and 183 seats.In the last Lok Sabha general elections, the BJP had performed spectacularly by winning a landslide 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

While 115-124 seats will go to Mayawati’s BSP, the incumbent Samajwadi Party is likely to win 94-103 seats in elections to the 403 assembly constituencies in the state. The survey revels that the Congress will come as a poor fourth with just 8-12 seats. However, no party is going to form government on its own.

However highest number of the voters in UP have reposed their faith in BSP supremo’s Mayawati as the preferred candidate for Chief Minister. As many as 31 per cent of the voters want Mayawati to be the next CM. She is followed by incumbent CP Akhilesh Yadav whose fortunes have diminished after the recent bickering in his family.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is the choice of 18 per cnet whereas his party colleagues has the confidence of 14 percent voters.

Despite the Congress pulling all the socks, only 6 per cent of the respondents said that they world vote for the party. The appointment of Sheila Dikshit as the party’s chief ministerial candidate, has failed to make any improvement as she received the backing of only 1 per cent of the total respondents.

High Anti-Incumbency

The opinion poll says there is high anti-incumbency against the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. About 60 per cent of those polled expressed dissatisfaction with the SP administration. l
