During the Navaratri festival, a calf reportedly born with two heads and three eyes is being worshipped as an avatar of Maa Durga.

The calf was born to a cow owned by a farmer named Dhaniram who hails from Bijapur village of Kumuli panchayat in Odisha’s Nabrangpur district. Dhaniram and his family were surprised when they saw the unusual calf.

Dhaniram had bought the cow two years ago. It got pregnant recently and went into labour during Navaratri. The cow had trouble while delivering the calf, and when he examined her, he realised that the calf has two heads and three eyes.

A video of the calf having trouble drinking milk from its mother has gone viral online. The owners are purchasing milk from outside to feed her using a bottle.

This is however not the first time that a calf was born with two heads. In another unusual instance in September, a buffalo gave birth to a rare two-headed calf in Pura Sikrauda village of Rajasthan’s Dholpur district. The newborn calf had two necks, two mouths, four eyes and four ears.

Last year, a calf, a lot smaller than the rest of the herd was born with two extra legs hanging on its shoulders just like “angel wings” in Northern Ireland.  The vet had said one of its extra legs was attached to its spine and it would be too risky to remove it.
