Assembly elections 2022: The Assembly polls in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa will be held in a single phase on February 14 while voting in Manipur will be held in two phases on February 27 and March 3. Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven phases to elect 403 MLAs between February 10 and March 7.

The counting of votes will take place on March 10. Meanwhile, pre-poll woes for the Uttar Pradesh BJP continue as 10 MLAs, including three sitting ministers of the Yogi Adityanath government, have resigned from the party.

Speaking about the series of defections from the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told ANI: “Resignations are not a big deal in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP is getting support from everywhere in the state. People will bless us and the BJP will be successful in forming governments in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.”

Ex-ministers in the BJP Cabinet in UP — Swami Prasad Maurya, Dharm Singh Saini and Dara Singh — along with a few other MLAs will join the Samajwadi Party at 11 am today.

The Punjab Congress Central Election Committee has finalised the candidates for the Assembly polls. The first list will be out soon after a meeting of the CEC today, said sources. CM Charanjit Singh Channi may contest from two seats — Chamkaur and Adampur.
