Mohammad Siqqique was an infant when India was partitioned in 1947 and this was when his family got split. His elder brother Habib alias Shela grew up on the Indian side of the Partition line.
Now 74 years later, thanks to the Kartarpur Corridor that connects Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan to India, the brothers have reunited and got to meet each other.
A video of an emotional sibling reunion is winning hearts on social media. According to reports, Siddique lives in Pakistan’s Faislabad. Shela is his elder brother and lives in the Indian side of Punjab.
The video shows the brothers crying in one-another’s arms with a crowd watching this emotional reunion. They talk about breaking bread together as they walk off.
Reports quoted the brothers thanking the governments of the two countries for opening the Kartarpur Corridor facilitating a visa-free travel from India to Pakistan up to Kartapur, about five kilometres from the border. It became operational in November 2019.
