In an exclusive interview with India Today TV on Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said no one wears hijab by choice.
Amid the raging hijab row, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said hijab is forced on Muslim women and that no one wears hijab by choice.
In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Yogi Adityanath said, “No woman wears hijab by choice. Did women ever accept triple talaq malpractice by choice? Ask those daughters and sisters.”
“I have seen their tears…when they spoke about their ordeal, their relatives were shedding tears,” Yogi Adityanath said, adding, “One women from Jaunpur thanked PM [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi for abolishing triple talaq.”
Yogi Adityanath said personal clothing is limited to an individual’s choice. “I didn’t force my sartorial choice on any official. Can I ask everyone at my office to wear bhagua [saffron]? Can I say this to everyone in my party? I can’t. Everyone should have freedom and if there’s an institution, there should be a discipline in that institution,” he said.
