At least 6 Congress MLAs under the leadership of senior Congress leader Digambar Kamat are likely to join the BJP.
Congress MLAs in Goa, under the leadership of senior Congress MLA Digambar Kamat, are on the verge of revolt and may join the BJP, sources said. According to sources, at least six to ten MLAs are likely to join the BJP.
Amid rumours of Congress MLAs jumping ship, All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Goa, Dinesh Gundo Rao, said, “Congress to parade all its 11 MLAs before media in panjim today at 6.45 pm.”
The party has blamed the BJP for creating confusion and spreading rumours about its MLAs.
Speaking to India Today, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said, “I am sitting at my home. There is no truth to these talks. I don’t know who is spreading these rumours. But I am not going anywhere.”
A meeting of Goa Congress MLAs was called today and the Congress has denied any rift within the party.
There were rumours that at least 10 Congress MLAs may join the BJP.
In the 40 member house, Congress has 11 MLAs, the BJP has 20 MLAs and is supported by 2 MGP and 3 independent MLAs.
Many suggest that the BJP would want the Congress MLAs in its kitty, which makes the pathway easy for 2024. The BJP had lost the south Goa Lok Sabha seat to congress in 2019
