A mosque-shaped gate in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh has sparked controversy, with Kunda MLA’s father calling for the removal of the gate.
Kunda MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh’s father, Raja Uday Pratap Singh, on Wednesday protested over a mosque-shaped gateway in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district. The gate was themed around the pillars of a mosque as part of Muharram celebrations.
Uday Pratap Singh told India Today that a mosque-like gate was built across the road in Sheikhpur village and alleged that Hindus are being forced to pass through it. He had also asked residents to tweet to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding the same.
The temporary gateway installed on the Lucknow-Prayagraj highway in Sheikhpur region has writings in Urdu and the Kunda MLA’s father objected to this.
I do not know what has been written in Urdu on that gate. We are being forced to pass through it. If the administration does not remove it, the dharna will continue,” he said.
Similarly, several Hindu outfits have also opposed the idea of a mosque-shaped gateway.
On the other hand, the administration has taken cognisance of the matter. Satish Chandra Tripathi, SDM Kunda, told India Today that the gate has been there for the past 4-5 years and is a part of the local custom.
