Former India men’s cricket team captain Virat Kohli has congratulated the Indian contingent for their success at CWG 2022.
Former India men’s cricket team captain Virat Kohli congratulated the Indian contingent after their successful outing in Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games 2022.
India enjoyed a fruitful campaign at CWG, winning 61 medals in total. The athletes won 22 gold medals, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals in Birmingham.
The most medals were achieved by the wrestling contingent, as all the 12 participants found themselves on the podium. Six of them were able to win gold.
PV Sindhu won her first women’s singles CWG gold and Lakshya Sen also impressed everyone with his performances during the campaign. He was also able to win the gold medal in the men’s singles category.
Weightlifters won 10 medals, including three Gold medals, while table tennis stars won seven medals, including four Gold.
The men’s and women’s hockey teams also did well throughout the duration of the campaign and ended up with silver and bronze medals respectively.
The Indian women’s cricket team also secured a silver medal at the Games.
Despite the absence of archery and shooting, India was impressive in athletics, Lawn Bowls, para powerlifting and other sports.
Over the past few days, many fans and celebrities have taken to social media to show their appreciation for the athletes who made the country proud. The latest to wish the contingent is Kohli. The former India captain took to Twitter to tell the athletes that they have brought great laurels for the country.
He went to congratulate the athletes and said that the country is proud of their achievements.
“You have brought great laurels for our country. Congratulations to all our winners and the participants of CWG 2022. We are so proud of you. Jai Hind,” said Kohli.
As for Kohli, he will return to the India squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, which will start on 28th of August. The former India captain was rested for the tour of West Indies.
