BJP President JP Nadda, actor Anupam Kher and AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria, were honoured with the ‘Alumni of the Year’ award by Himachal Pradesh University on Sunday.
ddressing the ‘Alumni Meet-2022’ of Himachal Pradesh University, JP Nadda said that the alumni meet was an exceptional occasion to reinforce the bonds of alumni with their alma mater, where they can share their memories, experiences and accomplishments.
He said that his days as a student of the university. He said it was the beginning of his days in activism.
Speaking to India today he said, “For this function also, I requested the organiser that there should be participation from all hues.”
Nadda said he was a student at Himachal University when there were only A and B blocks and now the university has over 50 departments.
Talking about Congress leader Anand Sharma, who is also an alumnus of the university, Nadda said he had spoken to Anand Sharma. “Though an opponent, there had been an association as alumni. We agreed to disagree but together we were all like a bouquet
On the other hand, Anupam Kher said that with 38 per cent marks, he would be perhaps only one of the kind to be alumni of the year. He said he made it only through his acting skills and quota, from BA to MA, but eventually went to Chandigarh to be an actor.
He left the audience in splits when he said if he had to race for sports quota, even if he was running alone he would come second, his sports teacher would say to him. “Despite my poor marks, my dreams came true,” said the actor.
AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria said he honed his skills at Himachal Pradesh University. He was unsure in his student days about how life would turn out to be, but found his way. Besides thanking the university for the award, he said he met his now wife only because of the university and both went on to become successful doctors.
