Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on a one-day visit to Gujarat, said that the AAP will restore the old pension scheme if voted to power in the upcoming Assembly polls.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal sent out a poll pitch from Vadodara after a town hall event and said the old pension scheme (OPS) will be restored in Gujarat once his party comes to power.

“Gujarat government employees have been protesting for many days. They demand that the old pension scheme should be implemented. [Punjab Chief Minister] Bhagwant Mann has given orders to implement OPS in the state. We will implement the old pension scheme after the formation of the government in Gujarat,” Kejriwal said in a press conference

he old pension scheme was discontinued in 2004 and replaced with the National Pension Scheme. In the old regime, pension was 50% of the last drawn salary of the employee and the entire amount was paid by the government.

Arvind Kejriwal further clarified that the liquor policy will remain the same in Gujarat if the AAP forms a government in the state.

Hitting out at the Congress and BJP, Kejriwal said both parties do not want to want good facilities for the people of Gujarat and hence they will field big leaders in the elections to “abuse” him.

While responding to the ‘Modi, Modi’ chants that greeted the AAP leader outside the Vadodara airport, Kejriwal said that around 30-40 people raising slogans does not affect the party.

“They [BJP] are just trying to create an atmosphere. The BJP is going to face a lot of problems. I don’t understand why they don’t raise slogans against Rahul Gandhi? A few people, around 30 to 40 people, raising slogans against me does not affect us,” he added.

Speaking about his party’s chief minister in Punjab, who was allegedly deplaned at Frankfurt airport in Germany because he was drunk, Kejriwal listed out the achievements of the Punjab government under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann.

The Assembly elections in BJP-ruled Gujarat are due later this year, and the AAP leader has visited the state multiple times in the recent past to interact with people.

During his multiple visits to Gujarat in the recent past, Kejriwal had announced a slew of guarantees, including free electricity, allowances for women, free and quality healthcare and education, and the creation of jobs.
