US Congress recognizes Two Indian spiritual leaders for their contributions toward global peace

  • Two Indian spiritual leaders, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Acharya Lokesh Muni, have been recognized by the US Congress for their contributions towards global peace. 
  • “With his message of peace and commitment to education and humanitarianism, Gurudev has lived a life dedicated to the betterment of others,”- the congressman said. 
  • Krishnamoorthi recognized Acharya Muni for his lifetime dedication to promoting peace, religious tolerance, and universal values. 

The US Congress has recognized two Indian spiritual leaders, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Acharya Lokesh Muni, for their efforts towards global peace and harmony. “With his message of peace and commitment to education and humanitarianism, Gurudev has lived a life dedicated to the betterment of others,” Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said in his remarks in the House of Representatives.

Describing Ravi Shankar as a global humanitarian and spiritual leader, Krishnamoorthi said for over 40 years, he has helped guide individuals in Illinois and throughout the world in their search for inner peace with his programmes rooted in meditation and yoga.

He also recognized Acharya Muni for his lifetime dedication to promoting peace, religious tolerance,

“With the support of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti, Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni Ji leads interfaith dialogues with the goal of finding common ground among the participants. Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni Ji’s work has positively impacted individuals throughout the world,” he said.

Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni Ji is a master in the field of Meditation, Yoga, and Peace Education. His contribution to Peace Education is an integration of age-old meditation and Yoga with current scientific research. It brings an end to the animal instinct in human beings and awakens human and spiritual values.

Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni was honored with’ Ambassador of Peace’ by the Universal Peace Federation at the Interfaith Conference 2014 organized at the United Nations. In the year 2010. Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni was awarded ‘The National Communal Harmony Award’ by the Government of India.  In 2006, Hon’ble Smt. Pratibha Patil conferred the famous ‘Ethical Honor’ of Gulzarilal Nanda Foundation to Acharya Lokesh. In the year 2007 the honorary degree of ‘Doctorate’ was conferred on Acharya Lokesh Muni by the Indian Board of Alternative Medicines.

Acharya Ji has made endless efforts to establish Bhagwan Mahavir values of nonviolence, Unity in Diversity, and Harmony in society.

Ravi Shankar is an Indian yoga guru and a spiritual leader. He is frequently referred to as Sri Sri, Guru ji, or Gurudev.  From around the mid-1970s, he worked as an apprentice under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of Transcendental Meditation. In 1981, he split from Transcendental Meditation and founded the Art of Living Foundation.

He believes spirituality is that which enhances human values such as love, compassion, and enthusiasm. It is not limited to any one religion or culture. Hence it is open to all people. He feels the spiritual bond we share as part of the human family is more prominent than nationality, gender, religion, profession, or other identities that separate us.
