Tremors felt in Delhi-NCR and UP after 6.2 magnitude earthquake strikes

An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude hit Nepal on October 3 and tremors were felt all across North India including Uttarakhand and Delhi-NCR regions.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter Scale hit Nepal at 2:25 pm today, the National Centre for Seismology said. The tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR region and it is said to have lasted for more than 20 seconds. In June too, tremors were felt in the Delhi-NCR region and parts of north India, when earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter scale occurred 30km southeast of Kishtwar in Jammu & Kashmir.

On Tuesday, tremors were also felt in Uttarakhand including parts of Dehradun, Pithoragarh.

The National Centre for Seismology said that the quake in Nepal was at depth of 5 km.

In June, earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR region and parts of north India. According to European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, (EMSC), an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter scale occurred 30km southeast of Kishtwar in Jammu & Kashmir. The tremors were felt for almost 20 seconds.

People in Uttarakhand, Noida and Delhi were seen rushing down the buildings after strong tremors were felt.

The Delhi Police urged them not to panic. “We hope you all are safe. Please come out of your buildings to a safe spot, but do not panic. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS! For any emergency help, dial 112,” it said in a post on X.
