The AAP on Wednesday alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has “targeted” their Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh as he raised issues related to the Adani Group in Parliament. The party was reacting to the ED raids on the premises of Singh in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case, officials said.

“Sanjay Singh kept on raising questions on the issue of Adani and this is why the raids are being conducted at his residence. The central agencies found nothing earlier and won’t find anything today either. First, they conducted raids at the residence of some journalists yesterday, and today, raids were conducted at Sanjay Singh’s residence,” AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta said. Sanjay Singh’s father Dinesh Singh said they are cooperating with the ED.

Aam Aadmi Party boss Arvind Kejriwal has come out in support of colleague Sanjay Singh after his home was searched this morning in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. The Delhi Chief Minister claimed “more than 1,000 raids” had failed to find “a single paise” of illegally acquired money.

Mr Kejriwal also hit out at the ruling BJP and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party of “desperate attempts” to derail rivals ahead of next year’s general election. “For the last year we have been seeing, there is noise about alleged liquor scams. More than 1000 raids have been conducted and not a single paise was recovered. Nothing has been found till now and nothing is going to be found from Sanjay Singh’s place too” he told reporters.

The Enforcement Directorate raided Mr Singh’s Delhi home early Wednesday morning over money-laundering charges linked to the liquor excise policy case of 2021. He is the latest AAP leader to come under central agencies’ scanner in this case, after ex-Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI and the ED.

The policy case was filed in connection with a Delhi government liquor policy that was later scrapped.   Mr Kejriwal was also questioned for nearly nine hours in the same case in April. The policy was subsequently scrapped and the Delhi lieutenant governor recommended a CBI probe, following which the ED registered a case under the PMLA.

Singh had demanded a probe into the allegations against the Adani Group. US-based firm Hindenburg Research had alleged that the Adani Group had engaged in brazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud. The Adani Group has denied all allegations.
