In the latest ‘India’s 100 Richest 2023’ by Forbes, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has once again secured the top position as the wealthiest individual in India this year. His total net worth increased by $4 billion, reaching $92 billion, compared to the previous year.

Following closely are other prominent figures, with Adani Chairman Gautam Adani having a net worth of $68 billion, Shiv Nadar of HCL Tech with $29.3 billion, Savitri Jindal from OP Jindal Group holding $24 billion, and Radhakishan Damani of Avenue Supermarts with $23 billion.

According to Forbes, “The needle has not moved much this year regarding the collective wealth of India’s 100 wealthiest people. At $799.32 billion, it is a touch lower than $799.78 billion in 2022.”

Among the top 10, Mukesh Ambani, Shiv Nadar, Savitri Jindal, Hinduja Family, Dilip Shanghvi, Kumar Birla, and Shapoor Mistry and family saw an increase in their net worth, while Gautam Adani, Radhakishan Damani, and Cyrus Poonawalla witnessed a decrease in their wealth compared to the previous year.

Savitri Jindal is the richest Indian woman, according to the latest Forbes’ list.

Seven individuals have made a return to the list, with the cut-off for inclusion increasing to $2.3 billion. However, eight individuals who were on the list last year, including Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath, have been removed due to challenges faced by their edtech company Byju’s.

This year, there are only three new entrants on the list, including Renuka Jagtiani, chairwoman of the Landmark Group, succeeding her late husband Micky Jagtiani, who passed away in May. The Dani family of Asian Paints also joins, inheriting the wealth of patriarch Ashwin Dani, who passed away in September.

The third new entrant is garment exporter KP Ramasamy, the founder and chairman of K.P.R. Mill. Srichand Hinduja, the eldest of four brothers, passed away in May, and the fortune is now listed under the Hinduja family.

Nikhil Kamath of Zerodha stands out as the youngest billionaire at 37 years, ranked 40th among India’s wealthiest individuals. The combined net worth of the Kamath brothers, Nithin and Nikhil, is now at $5.5 billion, according to Forbes.

Notable gainers this year include Inder Jaisinghani, whose wealth saw the most significant percentage increase, nearly doubling his family’s fortune to $6.4 billion, thanks to the success of his wires and cables company, Polycab India. Pharma brothers Ramesh and Rajeev Juneja also experienced a substantial 64% boost in wealth following the listing of their company, Mankind Pharma, in May.
