Veteran actress Asha Parekh, who gave memorable performances in films Kati Patang, Carvaan, Aan Milo Sajna, Teesri Manzil, and others, has slammed the makers of The Kashmir Files and asked them, ‘How much money did they give to Hindus living in Jammu?’

For the unversed, Vivek Agnihotri has directed and co-produced the film. While having a conversation with News18, the legendary actress was asked whether she had watched controversial films like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, both of which were box-office successes. The actress replied, I haven’t seen these films, so I can’t comment on the controversies surrounding them. But if people like watching these films, then they should watch.”

Talking about the box office success of the Vivek Agnihotri directorial, Asha Parekh bashed the makers and said, “Yes, people watched The Kashmir Files. I will say something controversial now. The film’s producer made ₹400 crore. How much money did the makers give for the welfare of the Hindus living in Jammu without access to water and electricity? Suppose the producers earned ₹200 crore out of the film’s ₹400 crore collection, they could have donated ₹50 crore to help Kashmiri Hindus, right?”

Talking about The Kashmir Files, it is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language drama film written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The film presents a fictional storyline centered around the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Indian-administered Kashmir. It depicts the exodus and the events leading up to it, as a genocide, a framing considered inaccurate by scholars. The film claims that such facts were suppressed by a conspiracy of silence.

The Kashmir Files stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi. The plot follows a Kashmiri Hindu college student, raised by his exiled grandfather and shielded from the knowledge of the circumstances of the death of his parents. After his grandfather’s death, the student, who had come to believe at college that the exodus was benign, becomes driven to uncover the facts of his family’s deaths. The plot alternates between the student’s quest in the present time, 2020, and his family’s travails of thirty years before. The film was released in theatres on 11 March 2022. It has been a commercial success.
