According to a survey conducted by a US-based global decision intelligence agency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the most popular global leader, boasting an impressive 78 percent approval rating. Surpassing prominent figures such as US President Joe Biden, and UK’s Rishi Sunak, Modi’s popularity continues to soar on the international stage.

The survey, conducted by Morning Consult, collected data from January 30 to February 5, reflecting a week-long moving average of adult opinions across various countries. At 73 years old, Modi’s leadership garners widespread support as he seeks a third successive term as India’s Prime Minister, a milestone previously achieved only by India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Modi’s journey from his humble beginnings in Vadnagar, Gujarat, to the forefront of Indian politics has been remarkable. Starting his career with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Modi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1985. Over the years, he held various positions within the party, eventually rising to the role of General Secretary in 2001.

His tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, beginning in 2001, showcased his governance acumen, leading to his selection as the BJP’s campaign committee chief and subsequently as the prime ministerial candidate. In the historic 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Modi spearheaded the BJP to a resounding victory, securing 282 seats and marking the first majority win for a single party since 1984. Five years later, in 2019, the BJP further solidified its dominance, securing 303 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
