Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Janata Bhawan Solar Project, a 2.5-MW grid-connected rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV system, in a ceremony held in Guwahati on Sunday.
This innovative project is set to generate an average of 300,000 units of electricity monthly, with an investment of 12.56 crore rupees expected to be recovered within four years. The monthly savings from the project are estimated to be approximately 30 lakh rupees.
The successful launch of the Janata Bhawan Solar Project has positioned the Assam Secretariat Complex as the first-ever civil secretariat in India to rely entirely on solar-generated electricity for its daily operations. This significant achievement underscores Assam’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
With a projected lifespan of 25 years, the solar plant will significantly reduce carbon emissions, cutting down approximately 3,060 metric tonnes of CO2 annually. During the inauguration, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the project’s importance, calling it a historic moment in Assam’s transition towards green energy.
“This project marks a significant step forward in our state’s journey towards embracing green energy and ensuring sustainable development for future generations,” stated Chief Minister Sarma at the event.
The Janata Bhawan Solar Project exemplifies Assam’s dedication to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, setting a precedent for other states to follow in the adoption of renewable energy sources.
