The Telangana State Government has embarked on an ambitious project to transform Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Technology Centers (ATCs), aiming to enhance skill development and ensure students are job-ready. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for the first of these centers at the ITI Mallepally campus in Hyderabad yesterday.
This initiative targets the modernization of 65 ITIs across the state, equipping them with advanced technological capabilities to meet the evolving demands of the industry. The project is a collaborative effort between the state government and Tata Technologies Limited (TTL), highlighting a significant step towards improving vocational education and training.
In a statement released by the Chief Minister’s office, the total cost for converting ITIs into ATCs is projected to exceed ₹2,300 crore. The state government will contribute over ₹300 crore, while TTL will invest more than ₹2,016 crore. The project is structured under a 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Telangana government and TTL, ensuring long-term development and sustainability of the advanced training centers.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This project will not only provide our youth with the necessary skills to thrive in a technologically advanced job market but also attract more industries to Telangana, boosting our economy and employment rates.”
The advanced technology centers will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and training modules designed to keep pace with current industry standards. The upgraded curriculum will focus on practical skills in high-demand areas such as automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
The transformation of ITIs into ATCs is expected to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, providing students with hands-on experience and making them more competitive in the job market. This initiative aligns with the state’s broader goal of fostering innovation and technological advancement in education and industry.
TTL’s Managing Director, Warren Harris, expressed his company’s commitment to the project, stating, “We are proud to partner with the Telangana government in this landmark initiative. Our investment in these advanced technology centers underscores our belief in the potential of Telangana’s youth and our commitment to supporting their growth and development.”
The first phase of the project, starting with the ITI Mallepally campus, will serve as a model for subsequent centers. The successful implementation of this project is expected to position Telangana as a leading state in vocational education and training, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
As the project progresses, continuous evaluations and updates will ensure that the training provided remains relevant to industry needs. This dynamic approach aims to produce a workforce that is not only skilled but also adaptable to the ever-changing technological landscape.
