Paris Olympic double medallist Manu Bhaker is likely to miss the upcoming Shooting World Cup in New Delhi this October as she has decided to take a three-month break from the sport. The 22-year-old pistol shooter, who made history for India at the Paris Olympics by securing two bronze medals—one in the women’s 10m air pistol and another in the 10m air pistol mixed team event—has opted for some much-needed rest following her rigorous training and competition schedule.
Bhaker’s coach, Jaspal Rana, confirmed the news, stating, “I am not sure whether she will be at the Shooting World Cup in October because she is taking a three-month break. It’s a normal break; she has been training for a long time.”
The New Delhi Shooting World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 13 to 18. However, Bhaker’s absence would be a significant one, given her recent success and the expectations surrounding her performances.
Rana, who has been instrumental in Bhaker’s remarkable comeback after a disappointing Tokyo Olympics, emphasized that the break is part of a larger plan. The focus will now shift towards ensuring that Bhaker peaks at the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. Her coach believes that this rest period will be crucial for her long-term success.
Bhaker, who returned to India from Paris in the early hours of Tuesday, has been a prominent figure in Indian shooting, with her achievements continuing to inspire young athletes across the country. Her decision to take a break highlights the importance of rest and recovery in an athlete’s career, particularly after the intense physical and mental demands of competing at the highest level.
