Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has reportedly received beheading threats from extremist Sikh groups following the release of the trailer for her upcoming movie Emergency. The film, in which Kangana plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is set to release on September 6, 2024. The threats were issued after a video went viral, with an extremist Sikh group warning Kangana against portraying Khalistani militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a terrorist in the movie.

The video alludes to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards Satwant Singh and Beant Singh after the controversial Operation Blue Star, in which Bhindranwale was killed. The extremist in the video threatens, “If he (Bhindranwale) is portrayed as a terrorist in the movie, remember what happened to the person (Indira Gandhi) whose movie you are doing and who were Satwant Singh and Beant Singh. We will offer our head to Santji, and those who can offer their head can also chop others off.”

In response, Kangana took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share the video and called for action from the police in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Maharashtra. She tagged the respective Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and urged them to investigate the threats.

The controversy surrounding Emergency has intensified, with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) demanding a ban on the film. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami criticized the portrayal of Bhindranwale, who has been declared a martyr by the Akal Takht Sahib, claiming that the film shows him in a negative light. Additionally, Faridkot MP Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, the son of Indira Gandhi’s assassin Beant Singh, and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal have also called for the film to be reviewed by the SGPC before its release.

As tensions rise, Kangana has sought police protection and urged authorities to take swift action to ensure her safety and the security of the film’s release.
