Vanraj Andekar, a former corporator of the Pune Municipal Corporation and an NCP leader aligned with the Ajit Pawar faction, was killed in a brutal attack by bike-borne assailants in Pune’s Nana Peth area. The incident, which occurred last night, appears to be a result of personal enmity. Andekar, who was associated with the NCP before the party split and the Pune civic body came under state administration, succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

CCTV footage captured the chilling moments when at least 12 men on six two-wheelers arrived at Andekar’s premises. The attackers, armed with firearms and long-blade sickles, fired five rounds at Andekar and attacked him with sharp weapons. Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma stated, “He was brought dead to KEM Hospital. As per the primary information, Andekar suffered multiple sharp weapon injuries.”

The Pune crime branch has launched an investigation into the high-profile murder. Preliminary findings suggest that the attackers tampered with the power supply in the area, plunging the street lights into darkness, which facilitated the assault. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
