Ajinkya Rahane displayed a superb performance for Leicestershire in the ongoing County Division Two, scoring a magnificent century in the second innings and leading a remarkable fightback against Glamorgan in Cardiff. On the final day of the County Championship Division Two match, Rahane’s solid batting alongside Peter Handscomb helped Leicestershire secure a draw after being significantly behind in the game.

Glamorgan had put up a massive total of 550/9, leaving Leicestershire trailing by 299 runs and in a tough position to save the match. Rahane, who was not selected for the Duleep Trophy, stepped up under pressure and hit his 40th first-class century, demonstrating his experience and resilience. After a decent start, Leicestershire lost opener Rishi Patel and captain Lewis Hill in quick succession, placing the responsibility on Rahane to stabilize the innings.

Starting cautiously, Rahane grew in confidence as his innings progressed. He lost his partner Ian Holland but then found support from fellow overseas player Peter Handscomb. Both Rahane and Handscomb had made contributions in the first innings, and their partnership was crucial once again.

The duo forged a 183-run stand for the fourth wicket, keeping the Glamorgan bowlers at bay and both achieving their centuries. Rahane was eventually dismissed for 102, but Handscomb remained unbeaten, ensuring that Leicestershire salvaged a draw. Despite losing a few more wickets after Rahane’s departure at 257, Handscomb held firm, preventing Glamorgan from making a comeback.

For Rahane, this century comes at an opportune moment, as the selectors are set to announce the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. His performance could potentially earn him a place in the team, highlighting his ability to perform under pressure and lead his side when needed most.
