In a damning critique of the company, Augustine stated, “Anna’s experience sheds light on a work culture that seems to glorify overwork while neglecting the very human beings behind the roles.” She added that not a single representative from EY attended her daughter’s funeral, and her attempts to contact Anna’s managers were met with silence. This neglect has fueled further outrage, with many questioning the firm’s commitment to employee well-being.

Memani’s Email to EY Staff Leaked

A day after Augustine’s letter went viral on social media, Rajiv Memani sent an internal email to EY staff. The email, marked with a “do not forward” directive, was nonetheless leaked online, drawing widespread attention. Memani acknowledged receiving the “anguished email from Anna’s mother” and expressed deep regret over her loss.

He described Anna’s time with the company as a “short-lived journey” and reiterated that he had been in touch with her family to convey his condolences. Memani emphasized that he took the concerns raised by Augustine seriously and encouraged employees to use internal forums to share their feedback or concerns regarding their work environment.

Memani concluded his message by urging staff to handle the matter with “utmost compassion and sensitivity.” Despite these words, the leak of the email, coupled with the mother’s accusations, has only added to the mounting public pressure on EY to address the issue openly.

Government Involvement and Pending Investigation

The controversy surrounding Anna’s death has attracted the attention of the Union labour ministry, which has taken up the case for investigation.
