BrahMos Leads the Way: First Indian Company to Reserve Jobs for Agniveers

Pioneering Move by BrahMos Aerospace

In a first for corporate India, BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd, an Indo-Russian joint venture, has announced that it will reserve 15% of its technical vacancies for Agniveers, the young recruits trained under the Agnipath Scheme. Additionally, 50% of the company’s administrative and security roles, including outsourced positions, will also be set aside for Agniveers. This move by the world’s fastest supersonic missile maker positions BrahMos as the first Indian company to take this bold step, further extending the initiative beyond its own workforce by encouraging industry partners to follow suit.

Expanding Opportunities for Agniveers

BrahMos is not just limiting the job reservation to its in-house roles but is also incentivizing its industry partners—over 200 companies working closely with BrahMos—to reserve 15% of their workforce for Agniveers. These roles will be connected to BrahMos Aerospace’s operational needs, ensuring that Agniveers’ specialized training is put to use in various capacities. The company’s CEO and Managing Director, Atul Dinkar Rane, emphasized that Agniveers bring a high level of discipline and training, reducing the need for further instruction on the company’s part.

“We are integrating Agniveers because they are already trained and disciplined,” said Rane. “This initiative ensures that BrahMos will benefit from a workforce that has been rigorously trained in military and technical skills, which will directly enhance our operations.”

Why Agniveers are a Perfect Fit for BrahMos

Under the Agnipath Scheme, launched in 2022, young individuals are recruited into the Indian armed forces for a four-year term, during which they are trained in various military tactics and technical proficiencies. This makes them a valuable resource for companies like BrahMos that require a skilled and disciplined workforce.

By hiring Agniveers, BrahMos not only taps into a pool of highly trained individuals but also supports the national initiative aimed at ensuring these young recruits have viable career opportunities once they complete their service.

Encouraging Industry-Wide Adoption

BrahMos Deputy CEO, Dr. SK Joshi, expressed confidence that other Indian defense industries would follow suit in reserving roles for Agniveers. He highlighted that BrahMos is part of a larger network of over 250 Indian defense industries, and their influence could spark a broader movement across the sector.

Rane further explained that BrahMos plans to include this preference in the “desirable features” section of its tenders, signaling to potential vendors the importance of providing opportunities to Agniveers. “This will be a message to our partners—whether they handle security, outsourcing, or manpower—that we expect at least 15% of their workforce to include Agniveers,” Rane stated.

Expanding Agniveers’ Career Prospects

Other sectors have also started opening doors for Agniveers. They are already eligible for a 10% reservation in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, where they are exempt from certain physical tests required for other candidates.

At the state level, Haryana recently announced a 10% quota for Agniveers in select government jobs, along with an annual subsidy of ₹60,000 for industries offering them salaries above ₹30,000. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh has promised weightage for Agniveers in its state police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) force.

A Blueprint for the Future

BrahMos Aerospace’s initiative sets a new standard for corporate India, proving that the integration of Agniveers into the workforce is not only possible but also highly beneficial. By offering meaningful roles to these trained young individuals, BrahMos is helping to ensure that Agniveers have access to fulfilling careers beyond their military service. With over 200 industry partners poised to join the effort, the company is leading by example, showcasing a new way forward in supporting national initiatives while strengthening its own operations.
