A powerful explosion outside the CRPF Public School in Rohini, Delhi, on Sunday has set off an extensive multi-agency investigation, with authorities now probing the possibility of a larger conspiracy behind the attack. The blast, which occurred in the Prashant Vihar area, sent shockwaves across the city and was reportedly heard up to two kilometers away, shattering windows and damaging nearby vehicles.
The Explosion: Tactical and Devastating
According to early reports, the explosion was a directional blast, designed to create a shockwave effect. Sources revealed that the explosives were strategically placed to maximize the impact, causing significant damage to surrounding buildings. Investigators believe that the explosive material rapidly expanded into hot, high-pressure gas, generating a supersonic shockwave that caused the destruction.
“The windows of nearby buildings were shattered because of the high-velocity shockwave,” a source familiar with the investigation explained. “It travelled radially outward, impacting everything in its path.”
Authorities have discovered that the explosives were buried in a shallow pit, approximately half to one foot deep, and wrapped in a polythene bag before being concealed under garbage. The discovery of low-grade explosives at the scene suggests the use of materials commonly found in crude bombs.
Key Evidence Found at the Blast Site
During the investigation, forensic teams recovered traces of a white powdery substance believed to be ammonium phosphate, a chemical often used in homemade bombs. Additionally, wires and a battery were found near the blast site, raising questions about whether they were connected to the explosion. Officials from the National Security Guard (NSG) are currently analyzing the recovered materials to determine their role in the incident.
While forensic analysis is underway, the police are also examining CCTV footage and other clues from the area to establish a clearer picture of how the explosives were planted and detonated.
Terrorist Angle: Khalistani Connection Suspected
In a chilling development, some Telegram channels with links to Pakistan have claimed that Khalistani operatives were responsible for the attack. A Telegram group named “Justice League India” allegedly circulated CCTV footage of the explosion, suggesting that pro-Khalistan elements were behind the blast and warning that they could strike India at any time.
While the claim is being thoroughly investigated, officials are treating the information with caution, as there is no confirmed evidence yet linking the attack to any specific group. However, the involvement of terror outfits remains a key angle in the ongoing investigation.
Political Fallout: Law and Order Concerns
The blast has sparked a heated political debate in Delhi, with leaders exchanging accusations over the city’s deteriorating law and order situation. Atishi, the Chief Minister of Delhi and a prominent leader from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), took to social media to criticize the BJP-led central government for failing to maintain security in the capital. “The responsibility to maintain law and order in Delhi is with BJP’s Central government, but they are too focused on disrupting the work of Delhi’s elected government,” she said.
Atishi compared the current situation in Delhi to the crime-ridden days of Mumbai’s underworld, accusing the BJP of being incapable of handling rising violence in the city. She warned that if the BJP gains control of the Delhi government, essential services such as healthcare, electricity, and water supply could also suffer.
BJP Responds to Criticism
The BJP quickly responded to the allegations, with spokesperson Shazia Ilmi accusing Atishi and the AAP of politicizing a sensitive issue for electoral gain. Ilmi labeled Atishi as a “puppet CM” and condemned her for using the tragic incident to score political points. “This is not the time for political games. The AAP should focus on helping the investigation, not creating unnecessary panic,” she said.
Investigation Continues Amid Heightened Security
As Delhi reels from the aftermath of the explosion, security has been heightened across the city, with multiple agencies working together to track down those responsible. The forensic analysis of the explosive materials and the investigation into the Khalistani claims are expected to provide crucial leads in the coming days.
For now, Delhi’s residents and authorities remain on high alert as they await answers about the motive behind this alarming attack.
