IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Over 1,500 Cricketers Register as Event Heads to Jeddah
The upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction has drawn a record-breaking 1,574 player registrations, including 1,165 Indian cricketers, as announced by the BCCI on Tuesday. The auction will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25, marking the second consecutive overseas location after Dubai hosted last year’s event.
Among the registrants, 25 players have set a base price of INR 2 crore, with some expected to attract bids exceeding INR 20 crore. This top-tier list includes notable names like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, and international stars Mitchell Starc and Jofra Archer.
The player pool is made up of:
- 320 capped players,
- 1,224 uncapped players, and
- 30 players from Associate Nations.
Additionally, 409 overseas players are vying for a place in the franchises, with South Africa contributing the largest contingent of foreign players (91), followed by Australia (76). The auction will also feature players from England (52), New Zealand (39), West Indies (33), Afghanistan (29), and Sri Lanka (29). Associate Nations are represented by countries like the USA (10 players), Netherlands (12), and others.
The 10 franchises will collectively have around INR 641.5 crore to fill the 204 slots available in their rosters, allowing each team to assemble a squad of up to 25 players.
However, the auction dates will coincide with the third and fourth days of the first Test match between India and Australia in Perth, which could impact the availability of certain players and staff.
