Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), will remain in effect until the end of the Prime Minister’s tenure or further orders.

1980-batch IAS officer, Das brings a unique blend of fiscal and monetary expertise, making him highly qualified for this role. Prior to serving as RBI Governor, he held key positions in the Ministry of Finance, including Revenue Secretary and Economic Affairs Secretary, where he played a pivotal role in shaping India’s financial and economic policies.

His appointment comes at a critical time, with India facing global economic uncertainties, trade tensions, currency fluctuations, and growth challenges. With his vast experience, Das is well-positioned to assist the government in navigating these economic hurdles.

Having worked in both North Block (Ministry of Finance) and the RBI, Das has in-depth knowledge of financial regulation, inflation control, and economic growth strategies. During his tenure at the central bank, he oversaw significant reforms such as demonetization, inflation targeting, and banking sector stabilization.

As Principal Secretary-2, Das is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring economic stability, shaping key financial policies, and strengthening governance. His expertise in public finance, regulatory frameworks, and economic reforms will further enhance the PMO’s economic policy framework, supporting India’s long-term growth and development goals.
