While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to boycott the President’s address to the Parliament, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and other Congress MPs will have to skip due to delayed flights from Srinagar.
While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have decided to boycott President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament at 11 am on Tuesday, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and other Congress MPs will have to skip due to delayed flights from Srinagar.
“The President’s speech is prepared by the central government and encompasses the Centre’s work. As the Centre has failed on all fronts, there is no point in listening to this speech,
The AAP’s move comes amid the ongoing power tussle between CM Arvind Kejriwal and L-G VK Saxena in Delhi.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led by K Chandrashekar Rao is also set to boycott the President’s address over the BJP-led Centre’s alleged failure on all fronts of governance.
BRS leader K Keshava Rao said, “We are boycotting the Presidential address only to highlight the failures of the government and the plight of common people. We will not disrupt her address in any way.”
“The government has made an all-party meeting ‘ritual’ wherein they always say they are ready to discuss issues but it never happens,” he said.
“Income inequality, price hike, unemployment, interference of governors, Adani report, we will take up all issues to make government accountable,” he added.
KHARGE, CONGRESS MPS TO SKIP ADDRESS
Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, and other Congress MPs, who had gone to Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar to take part in the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra’s final stage, will not be able to attend the Presidential address due to delayed flights from Srinagar owing to bad weather conditions.
Senior Congress leader and the party’s media cell in-charge, Jairam Ramesh, in a tweet, said, “Due to delayed flights from Srinagar airport on account of inclement weather conditions, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, @kharge ji & many other Congress MPs will be unable to attend the President’s address to both Houses of Parliament at 11 am today.”
