The Nurse Who Saves Lives, Both Human and Wild

Ajita Pandey, a nursing officer from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, has become a social media sensation and a local hero for her fearless work as a snake rescuer. Known as the “Snake Girl” and “Snake Rescuer,” she has saved and released thousands of snakes into the wild, using her knowledge and bravery to challenge misconceptions about these often-feared creatures.

Ajita’s fascination with snakes began in childhood when snake charmers visited her home. Determined to learn more, she educated herself through books, newspapers, and online resources, discovering that most snakes are non-venomous and play a critical role in maintaining ecological balance. Motivated by this understanding, she has dedicated herself to preventing unnecessary snake killings and spreading awareness about their importance.

Her efforts earned her a World Record for rescuing 984 snakes during the COVID-19 pandemic alone, with the support of the local forest department. Between March 2017 and July 2021, she tirelessly worked to relocate snakes to safer habitats.

Balancing her nursing profession and her passion for wildlife conservation, Ajita has also trained in wildlife rescue techniques. Through her Instagram page, @invincible._ajita, she shares gripping videos of her rescues, inspiring others to respect wildlife and seek expert help when encountering snakes.

Ajita Pandey’s story is one of courage, compassion, and commitment, making her a true inspiration for those striving to coexist with nature.
