Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu led Parliament in paying tribute to singing legend Lata Mangeshkar who passed away on Sunday.3

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday, February 7, in his obituary reference, said that the death of singing legend Lata Mangeshkar has marked the end of an era in the music industry.

In passing away of Lata Mangeshkar, the country has lost a legendary playback singer, a compassionate human being and a towering personality in the world of Indian music and film industry. Her passing away marks the end of an era and has created an irreparable void in the world of music,” Naidu said.

Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after testing positive for Covid-19. She was under treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) over the past couple of weeks.

After showing signs of improvement recently, her health condition deteriorated. Unfortunately, she passed away on Sunday, leaving the entire nation in a state of grief. Lata Mangeshkar was cremated on Sunday at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai, with full state honours.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maha CM Uddhav Thackeray to Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor attended the funeral.

Lata Mangeshkar was a nominated Member of the Rajya Sabha from November 22, 1999, to November 21, 2005.

Members of Parliament joined M Venkaiah Naidu in paying tributes to the ‘Nightingale of India’ by observing a minute of silence in the House. Parliament was adjourned for one hour as a mark of respect to the singing legend.
