As Delhi heads toward its 2025 Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has strongly countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s jibes aimed at his government.
Kejriwal’s Response to ‘Sheeshmahal’ Remark:
In response to PM Modi’s comment calling the Delhi government a ‘sheeshmahal,’ Kejriwal fired back, stating that it was inappropriate for someone who wears a ₹10 lakh suit and lives in a house worth ₹2,700 crores to criticize. Kejriwal remarked:
- “Mention of a sheeshmahal doesn’t sound good from the mouths of those who live in a house worth 2700 crores, travel in an airplane worth 8,400 crores, and wear a suit worth 10 lakhs.”
- He implied that PM Modi’s lavish lifestyle contradicted his criticism of the AAP government.
Kejriwal’s Reaction to the ‘Aapda’ Jibe:
PM Modi had previously referred to the AAP-led Delhi government as facing an ‘aapda’ (crisis), but Kejriwal rejected this, asserting that the work his government is doing is seen as a “blessing” (aashirwad) by the people of Delhi. Kejriwal stated:
- “The work the AAP government is doing isn’t a crisis; people call it a blessing.”
He also turned the term ‘aapda’ back onto the BJP, listing three crises within the party:
- Lack of a clear chief ministerial candidate.
- Absence of a coherent narrative for the election.
- No agenda for the Delhi elections.
Kejriwal’s sharp retort emphasized that the real crises lie within the BJP rather than the AAP-run Delhi government. This exchange highlights the escalating political rhetoric as the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections approach.
