The latest case has come from the country’s capital Delhi. Here in Rohini area, criminals kept a retired engineer under digital arrest for 8 hours. Cyber criminals have cheated him of Rs 10 crore.
What did the police say?
The police has given information about the case of cheating of Rs 10 crore by digitally arresting the retired engineer. According to the police, the victim retired engineer lives with his wife in Sector 10 area of Rohini. Police has registered an FIR in the cyber cell on the basis of the complaint of the retired engineer.
60 lakh rupees freeze
Delhi Police has said that they have succeeded in freezing Rs 60 lakh in the case of digital arrest i.e. online intimidation for extortion in Rohini. A police officer has suspected that this fraud was carried out by callers from abroad. But the associates of the fraudsters in India have helped them collect information about the target.
What is digital arrest?
Actually, a new method has been invented by cyber criminals to cheat people, which is called digital arrest. In this case, the fraudsters contact you and introduce themselves as an officer of a legal agency. Then they scare people by making audio or video calls and make them digitally hostage in their house. After this, the victim is cheated by taking information about their bank account etc.
