Sambit Patra, the BJP national spokesperson has been appointed as the Chairman of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), a listed company. Earlier, as per an order dated November 30, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has given its approval to the Tourism Ministry’s proposal to split the post of chairman and managing director of ITDC.
According to the order, the post of CMD has been split into Chairman, ITDC and Managing Director, ITDC.
“Appointment of Dr. Sambit Patra as Part-Time Non Executive Director & Chairman of ITDC for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the official order said.
The order added that 1990 batch IAS officer Ganji Kamala V. Rao will continue to hold the post of MD, ITDC, till further orders.
Patra, a vocal BJP spokesperson, was made an independent Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation in 2017. He had also unsuccessfully contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Puri against the winning BJD candidate Pinaki Mishra.
