After bombs were recovered in Bengal’s Murshidabad and Malda on Thursday, the police said that they are investigating to find out who had stored the bombs. This incident came amid reports of violence in the state ahead of the panchayat polls.
Around 65 bombs were recovered from a jute field in West Bengal’s Malda on Thursday amid tensions and reports of violence ahead of the panchayat elections in the state on July 8.
More than 30 bombs were also recovered from the Bengal district of Murshidabad.
According to the police, locals from a village in Malda reported the bombs to the police, following which, a bomb disposal squad was called
Since the nominations for the panchayat polls began on June 9, six people, including a ruling TMC worker, were killed in violent clashes.
Reports of violence have come from Cooch Behar, North and South 24 Paraganas, Murshidabad, Birbhum, East Midnapore, and East Burdwan, among other places in the state.
Panchayat elections in Bengal will be held on July 8 and votes will be counted on July 11.
