The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is carrying out raids at the premises of former finance secretary Arvind Mayaram in relation to a corruption case. The searches are being carried out in Delhi and Jaipur.

The development comes just days after Arvind Mayaram joined Rahul Gandhi at Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra in Alwar, Rajasthan. Mayaram and his wife Shail were seen walking hand-in-hand with Gandhi. As of now, the CBI has not given any official statement on the matter and no arrest has been made so far.

Mayaram has been accused of financial irregularities in the currency printing case when he was the secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs. He allegedly gave an illegal extension to British-firm DelaRue for supplying exclusive colour shift (security thread) for Indian bank notes for a period of five years.

It is alleged that the undue favour offered to the British firm resulted in it making wrongful gains at a loss to the Indian exchequer.
