OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Pro with unlimited access to its reasoning model, voice mode and more, but at a price
OpenAI is launching a new subscription-based exclusive model, ChatGPT Pro, that will include unlimited access to OpenAI o1, GPT 4o and Advanced voice mode. The ChatGPT Pro will cost users $200 (around Rs 17,000) per month. It also offers a Pro-exclusive version of o1, known as o1 pro mode, which utilises additional computing power and reasoning to deliver the best solutions for complex problems. The company will maintain a Plus tier priced at $20 (around Rs 1,700) per month, granting early access to new features, access to all its models, and other benefits. However, it will not include the more advanced o1 version.
OpenAI o1 model is out of preview
The company is launching the full version of its o1 model, which will replace the previous o1-preview. Initially released in September under the code name ‘Strawberry’ as a limited preview, the new model will be available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users today, while Enterprise and Edu users will gain access next week.
According to OpenAI, the model can reason through complex tasks and solve harder problems than previous models in science, coding, and math. While it is the first of this series in ChatGPT, OpenAI expects to add regular updates and improvements.
It also demonstrates tangible improvements in key areas, such as generating code and tackling complex, multistep challenges with greater proficiency than its predecessors.
Now with the stable version, the company highlights significant improvements in its new AI model compared to the previous o1-preview version. Users can expect faster, more accurate performance, particularly in coding and math tasks. The model also introduces the ability to analyse and reason about images, showcasing a notable advancement in its capabilities. Additionally, it has been trained to provide more concise responses, ensuring quicker response times and an improved overall user experience. These upgrades reflect a focus on enhancing both technical proficiency and usability.
According to a recent interview with Financial Express, OpenAI’s CFO Sarah Friar hints that the company is mulling about it. She stated that while OpenAI is exploring more revenue options, there is no such active plan yet.
Currently, the company is shifting to a for-profit model and entering the online search market with its AI-driven search engine, poised to rival Google. Reports indicate that OpenAI has recently hired advertising specialists from top tech firms like Meta and Google, hinting that advertisements might soon be integrated into its flagship model, ChatGPT.
