Coldplay Concert: Over 3,800 Cops, 400 CCTVs Deployed Ahead of British Rock Group Event in Ahmedabad

The British rock group Coldplay is set to perform at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad’s Motera area on January 25 and 26 as part of their India tour. This iconic venue, the world’s largest cricket stadium, can accommodate over 1 lakh spectators.

The Gujarat Police have implemented extensive security arrangements for the highly anticipated concert. According to Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), Ahmedabad, Neeraj Kumar Badgujar, over 3,800 police personnel have been deployed at the venue, supplemented by metal detectors and a comprehensive surveillance system.

“Over 3,800 police personnel have been deployed, along with metal detectors and plainclothes officers, including female police officers and staff. The crime branch team and other branch teams are also stationed at the venue. Additionally, a network of over 400 CCTV cameras has been set up to monitor the event,” JCP Badgujar said. He further noted that the police will conduct thorough checks on every individual entering the venue, with special barricading arrangements in place to ensure no unauthorized access.

The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner conducted a detailed review of the security measures on Friday, inspecting critical points such as the CCTV control room and police control room to ensure readiness for the event.

Music of the Spheres World Tour

Coldplay’s much-awaited India tour is part of their “Music of the Spheres World Tour.” Prior to their Ahmedabad performances, the band captivated audiences at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on January 19 and 21. Notable attendees at the Mumbai concert included singer Shreya Ghoshal, her husband Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya, and her 70-year-old father, Bishwajit Ghoshal.

Black Market Ticket Sales Foiled

In a related development, Ahmedabad police arrested two individuals attempting to sell concert tickets on the black market. Vatsal Kothari (26) and Bisap Khalas (30) were apprehended on Tuesday with four tickets, which they had purchased for Rs 12,500 each. The duo intended to sell the tickets at an inflated price of Rs 20,000 each. Acting on a tip-off, a crime branch team nabbed them on Bhaktinagar Road. Both individuals have been arrested under the Gujarat Police Act, the police said in a release.
