The upcoming cyclone JAWAD is expected to make landfall between Puri and Berhampur of Odisha, owing to which heavy rains have been predicted in Odisha.
In the next 12 hours, a low pressure area will be formed over South Andaman Sea, following which it will move in a west northwest direction and concentrate into a depression over southeast & adjoining east central Bay of Bengal in the subsequent 48 hours, as reported by Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
Director General of IMD Mrutyunjay Mohapatra informed that the low pressure area is likely to intensify into a depression by December 2. Because of its influence, a cyclonic storm may form over the Bay of Bengal due to which heavy rainfall is expected from December 3 to 5 over south Odisha and North Coastal Andhra.
High waves will be formed in the sea and wind speeds of up to 60 to 70 km per hour is predicted. In some places, wind speed is likely to go up to 80 to 90km per hour.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri districts on December 3. Windy’s GFS model suggested that the cyclone will move from the direction of the Gulf of Thailand from tomorrow night. The possible cyclone JAWAD will touch Odisha coast on December 4 and make landfall between Puri and Berhampur.
However, accurate information regarding the movement and intensity of cyclone JAWAD will be known after the formation of low pressure.
